The first session of the algae hub took place in Sept, 2019, at Wuxi campus of SEU, which ended with the establishment of the first academic board.
There were a total of 21 experts and scholars from 13 institutions including Southeast University, Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Normal University, Nanjing Normal University, South China Normal University, Shanxi University, East China Normal University, Harbin Normal University, Institute of Hydroecology, MWR & CAS, Shanghai Ocean University and Hexi University, attending the meeting.

In his report, Li revealed his findings of the structural characteristics and differences of the microcystis genome through comparative genomics, and presented his research in the biodiversity in communities, function, metabolic pathway, environmental factors and community structure of the six microcystis with the method of macro genomics. At the same time, he pointed out the great importance of the building up cyanobacteria macro genomics database on data analysis, research and environmental monitoring.
Professor Li Yang from South China Normal University, reports on the macro genomic data mining of microcystis microbial community made a special report entitled "species information construction of toxic and harmful microalgae in China's coastal waters". [Photo provided to SEU, Wuxi]
He introduced the species and their potential harm of common microalgae in China's coastal waters, especially highlighting the accurate list of hazardous microalgae he created of morphological and molecular biology directions, and the multi angle, comprehensive "open database of toxic and harmful algae in China's coastal waters".
